The Crow (1994)

Sometimes what happens behind the scenes becomes much bigger than the movie itself. 1994’s The Crow was famous then and now for the tragedy that happened during filming. Brandon Lee, son of Bruce Lee and the movie’s star, was killed on set by a prop gun that had been modified. Production was finished with stand-ins and some early digital trickery. It became a hit because of the macabre interest in it. In a bit of irony, the plot revolved around Mr. Lee’s character being killed and resurrected to get revenge. The Crow’s legend has grown over the years, and it’s become more than just a cult hit. It’s also a movie of what could have been. If Mr. Lee had not been killed, and the movie was fully complete, would it have been better? It’s a case of real life overshadowing the finished product so much, its own theme becomes reality.
