My Boyfriend's Back (1993)
Raise your hand if you remember My Boyfriend’s Back. Yeah, not many of you. These days, zombies are all the rage in movies and tv shows. But in 1993, they were still something of a rarely used trope. Released by Disney’s Touchstone Pictures brand, it’s a movie about love and growing up. Johnny has been in love with Missy for a long time, but he gets killed trying to impress her. He comes back to life as a zombie, hoping to get a shot at taking her to the prom. There’s one memorable sequence of Johnny realizing his worst fear as a zombie. And, it’s a worst fear for a lot of us. Amazingly, the background actors are the ones who would become big names later on. Philip Seymour Hoffman, Matthew McConaughey, and Matthew Fox all appear. It was in and out of movie theaters before you could blink. It had a little life on home video, but less life than Johnny as a zombie. You won’t find this one on Disney+, which is a shame, because it’s worth shuffling off for.
